The proposed settlement is not yet approved. The Court will be asked to approve the proposed settlement at the Settlement Approval Hearing.

Claims Helpers

You can contact a Claims Helper if you have questions about the proposed settlement, want help understanding your options, or need support completing Forms.

If you would like support, Claims Helpers are available to help.

Claims Helpers can walk you through the process step by step. They can:

  • explain the proposed settlement in plain language
  • answer questions about the Claims Process
  • help you access and fill out forms, including:
    • opt out forms
    • objection forms
    • Claim Forms
  • help you fill out forms to access medical records
  • help you understand letters or updates about your Claim

They can also help you find additional supports if you need them.

What to expect

Claims Helpers are trained to provide trauma-informed and culturally safe support. They understand settlements can be complex and know how to help you move through the process.

They are not connected to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).

Their role is to support you with information and to help you complete your Claim Form.

What Claims Helpers can't do

There are some things Claims Helpers cannot decide or provide. For example, they cannot:

  • decide if you are eligible
  • decide if your Claim will be approved
  • provide legal advice

The Claims Administrator, not Claims Helpers, reviews all Claims and decides whether a Claim is approved, needs more information, or is denied.
