About the artwork and artist

The Birth Alerts BC Class Action logo is inspired by the story of the crow bringing daylight to the people of the north, people who used to live in complete darkness when the world was still new. They yearned for daylight after hearing stories, so the crow was asked to bring daylight to them. Reluctantly, the crow brought a ball of light from the south, giving people half a year of sun and half a year of dark. This logo is inspired by that story, as well as other stories of birds who act as protectors, guides and prayer bringers in First Nations stories. The sun is at the centre, highlighting a new beginning for class members, with birds flocking it for protection and guidance.

Christian Kent, the artist who created the logo for the Birth Alerts BC Class Action, grasps concepts quickly and turns them into effective and compelling designs for print, online and video, including animation design. As a member of the Sagkeeng First Nation (Saulteaux), he reflects Indigenous perspectives in design, as he has done for many projects and clients, including tobacco reduction campaigns for the Government of Nunavut, sexual health campaign for Pauktuutit, Inuit Women of Canada, and other settlement information campaigns.
