We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and protect the personal information of individuals who share information in relation to the Birth Alerts BC Class Action.
Information we collect

- Name
- Mailing address
- Email address
- Phone number
- Date of birth
Any other information needed to:
- Communicate with you
- Support completion of a Claim Form
- Assess and process a claim
We may also collect information related to your claim, including details about pregnancies, hospitals, and other information needed to determine eligibility.
Methods of collection
We collect personal information in the following ways:
- When you contact us by phone
- When you contact us by email
- When you submit a form through the website
- When you submit a Claim Form (online or by mail)
- When you interact with Claims Helpers for support
- From records provided by the Defendant (Province of British Columbia) for the purpose of giving notice to potential class members
Use of information
We use personal information only as needed to administer the settlement and meet legal requirements.
This may include:
- Processing and assessing Claim Forms
- Verifying identity and eligibility
- Requesting and reviewing records (including hospital records, where consent is provided)
- Communicating with you about your claim, objection or opt out choice, or the settlement
- Responding to questions or requests for support
- Administering the opt out process
- Maintaining records as required by law
- Complying with court orders and legal obligations
- Reporting to the Court as required under the settlement
We do not use your information for unrelated purposes.
Access to records (including hospital records)
If you submit a claim, you will be asked to provide consent for records to be requested and reviewed.
With your consent, records may be requested to help confirm whether a Birth Alert was issued.
These records may be requested from hospitals or health authorities and may be reviewed by:
- Class Counsel
- The Claims Administrator
- Other authorized parties involved in administering the settlement
Providing consent helps support the claims process. Not all claims require records, and each claim is assessed based on the available information.
Sharing of information
Personal information is shared only as needed to administer the settlement or as required by law.
Your information may be shared with:
- Class Counsel
- The Claims Administrator
- The Notice Provider (including Claims Helpers)
- The Court
- An Arbitrator, if a claim decision is reviewed or appealed
Information may also be shared with hospitals or health authorities where needed to request records, and only with your consent.
All parties involved are required to protect your information and use it only for purposes related to the settlement.
Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.
